Aisa bhi hota hai

"Kabhi kabhi ek doosre ko jaan ne mein barso lag jaate hain, aur kabhi kabhi sirf 1 mulakaat hi kaafi hoti hai." Sounds Romantic? Well, not to me! This is how I met my little sister Shruti. For the first time we met each other in Mumbai when I was 26 and she was a little younger (okay 4 years!...I hate to admit it.) She is doing law in Mumbai. We did not know anything about each other before. Infact I even had to tell her, how we two were related. (It’s like her grandpa and my grandma were siblings).
IT’S A REAL SHAME…for both of us that we did not meet before. BUT…the day we met, we hit it off as if we have always known each other.
Ironically, we shared nothing in common. She speaks all English, and I used to miserably fail at my English school lessons. One out of every 3 lines she says is a quote from some big hot shot writer, whose name I have obviously never heard because all my life I struggled and managed to read about 6 books, other than my course books and hindi comics (Champak, Chacha chaudhary, lot-pot). She is a BIG time rock fan and would go to any extent to attend a rock concerts. In stark contrast…I like dhik-chik dhik-chik bollywood music.
But there was something that we both liked… and it was TALKING. So there we sat that whole evening and talked and talked. I told her about my college, my BAKAR Gang, show her my college pictures, my friends, my fun videos… and what not. She told me about her life, and played guitar which she is amazing at. After all we had more than 20 yrs to catchup! I was little surprised over myself since I always felt that I take time to make new friends. But then despite of all these differences between us, Shruti was like some1 I always knew. So we chatted long, we had dinner together, we discussed music, bands, instruments, Boston legal (thatz as far as my knowledge of law goes), went out to roam around in Mumbai, had dessert from Gelatino (I guess!), took pictures in front of BSE (I was pretty excited to see it), sat at the beach and so many other things. Man! The entire stay was so much fun. Imagine going to a new place you have heard a lot about, and finding a home out there.
I’m glad I met them. Its was pure luck.
Will write more about her and a guy… which I was apprehensive about because of my BIG PTOTECTIVE BROTHER instincts (I never knew I had those…since I have always been youngest at home).
Dekha, aisa bhi hota hai.
Hope to see u soon, little sister.
